Amanda Caldwell’s path to becoming a Physician Assistant began at Carson-Newman University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Her academic focus in the sciences set the stage for her future in healthcare, but it was her drive to make a difference that pushed her forward. She wanted more than just a degree—she wanted to help people live healthier, happier lives.
Determined to provide comprehensive care, Amanda continued her education at Emory & Henry College, where she earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Her time at Emory & Henry was challenging yet rewarding, equipping her with the medical knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose, treat and manage a wide variety of health conditions. This education laid the foundation for Amanda to excel in her role as a PA, allowing her to bring excellent care to patients in Roanoke and beyond.
From Hospitalist to Primary Care: A Compassionate Caregiver
Before joining Star City Medical, Amanda Caldwell honed her skills as a hospitalist, working in a fast-paced hospital environment. As a hospitalist, she treated patients with a variety of medical conditions, many of which were acute and required immediate attention. This experience gave Amanda the opportunity to fine-tune her diagnostic skills, manage complex medical cases and provide patients with the urgent care they needed.
One of Amanda’s most memorable experiences as a hospitalist involved a patient returning to the hospital for treatment. Upon recognizing Amanda as her caregiver, the patient lit up with joy and relief, expressing how reassured she felt knowing she was in familiar and capable hands. This moment solidified Amanda’s belief in the power of building trust and strong relationships with patients—something she carries with her into her role at Star City Medical.
